The sharp increase in the amount lent may be a result of the sharp increase in energy prices. Since 2013, more than 1 billion euros have already been lent through the Heat Fund.
In the past year, that money mainly went to solar panels (37 percent), glazing (18 percent) and heat pumps (15 percent). Money was also borrowed for roof, floor and cavity wall insulation and insulating doors. These are therefore generally the most common sustainability measures.
Since the end of 2022, households up to a combined income of 60,000 euros have also been able to receive an interest-free loan from the Heat Fund. This is partly due to an additional government contribution. That loan is also free of interest for five years. After that, borrowers repay as they can, so only if they can afford it.
These developments show that more and more homeowners and VVEs are aware of the benefits of sustainability and are willing to invest in energy-saving measures. The Heat Fund plays an important role in this by providing financial support and thus stimulating sustainable initiatives.
